Lack of Awareness......

Something that is really annoying me in this last few days, here in Australia I have not seen a single advertisement on the Television in the papers anywhere but Facebook for World Duchenne Awareness Day!! It makes me mad, Sunrise, Today and all the news channel seem to have just completely ignored this day even after being contacted regarding this important day, if it was Cancer there would have been a story about it but no it's Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy that has no treatment, no cure, the biggest Childhood Genetic Killer in the world, but still no acknowledgement, however Kate Middleton being pregnant seems to be much more important to the world!!

I am fed up beyond belief at people's ignorance, I have been donating money non-stop to all types of causes including DMD, Cancer, Autism, Heart Foundation, Down syndrome and many many other worthy cause this is money that we seriously cannot afford, this is money that would be better off in my pocket for Kye's future care, it's unfathomable to me that even family members and supposed friends have not taken the time to donate something, anything, even just showing your support on Facebook by telling people about DMD or leaning about it for yourselves, sorry but I am over Cancer I'm sick to death of hearing about it, there are so many more diseases out there people some of which are much, much worse then cancer, yes some forms of Cancer are not curable and that is sad but Breast Cancer and so many other types are now curable with treatment, with DMD and many many other diseases there is no cure no treatment, children are dying every day from DMD families are burying their children as young as 10 years old.

Families are watching each day as their children loose the ability to do normal things that we all take for granted, How sad is it that Children with DMD get to a stage where they can no longer hug their loved ones, a child cannot hug their mother, they can't go to the toilet unaided they have to be fed through a tube, breath through a tube etc. I am so over the whole "he looks fine" yes he looks fine but inside his muscles are slowly starting to deteriorate.

Our boys & Girls with DMD get to start walking and running and we see our toddlers tearing about the place knowing in our hearts that that will be taken away from them, they suffer ridicule and bullying from people who stare at them when the walk funny, stare at their chairs, breathing tubes etc.

Please people you need to really take a look at this disease and how much we need a Cure right now, time is not on our side, the hourglass is slowly running out each day we lose more warriors to this insidious killer. If every person who donates to Cancer donated just $1 to DMD we would be that much closer to finding a cure. I am in no way saying Cancer is not a terrible disease it is I have lost family members to this disease my point is that there is treatments for so many forms of Cancer, Just imagine Cancer without a cure or treatment? it would be terrible for the families and individuals that are affected by this disease, that is how us DMD Families feel, the diagnosis is final once that diagnosis is in there is nothing that can be done to stop DMD it's final, the outcome inevitably is Death, no sugar coating here..

I lost my Brother to DMD and we face the prospect of losing our little boy to this same disease. We don't let this disease get us down, we are going to make sure his life is full of love and happiness, it just makes me mad that people don't seem to be aware and don't want to be aware, we don't want sympathy we want people to take action and donate some money and help us eradicate this disease once and for all!!! If you could please if you don't know what DMD is look it up or ask the question we the DMD Community are happy to educate people on what it is!!
